Future manned lunar exploration requires consideration of the unique radiation environment on the lunar surface, including the absence of atmospheric and geomagnetic shielding and the generation of secondary particles such as neutrons from lunar regolith. This presentation shows the characteristics of the lunar radiation environment and analyzes key challenges for future lunar development, including radiation detector development, radiation simulations on the lunar surface, and methods for assessing and managing radiation impacts on humans and electronic components.
