First-principles calculations

Focusing on the Fe/NM/Fe three-layer structure composed of the ferromagnetic metal Fe and the non-magnetic metals Al and Ag, we investigated the influence of the non-magnetic metal layers on the magnetic coupling between Fe layers and the interfacial states using first-principles calculations. We analyzed the interfacial energy, magnetic moment, charge density, and density of states for magnetic configurations in which the magnetizations between Fe layers are parallel and antiparallel. The results suggest that, due to differences in orbital hybridization, the direction of induced magnetization differs at the Fe/Al and Fe/Ag interfaces, thereby influencing the magnetic coupling between Fe layers and the stability of the magnetization configuration.
