The pulse waveforms emitted from a gain-switched semiconductor laser diode (GS-LD) and the frequency characteristics within the pulse train were investigated using the interferometric autocorrelation method. The obtained autocorrelation traces exhibited multiple peaks with characteristic shapes. Based on the measurement and simulation results, it was suggested that the GS-LD emits a pulse train containing a frequency shift.
