To realize electrically driven random lasers, microscale ZnO structures were hydrothermally synthesized on a p-type GaN substrate using a laser-patterned Kapton tape as a growth mask. Electroluminescence measurements were performed by pressing a transparent conductive substrate onto the sample. The results showed an enhancement of the emission intensity due to the increase in the current density. Furthermore, ultraviolet emission originating from ZnO and spectral narrowing were observed, suggesting the possibility of laser oscillation.
