Crystallization behavior is investigated as a key factor controlling the magnetostrictive properties of nanogranular Fe-B-N thin films. The microstructure varies depending on the annealing temperature. With increasing the annealing temperature, crystallization initially occures within the grains and parts of the grain boundaries, followed by grain growth and coalescence at higher temperatures. Consequently, the magnetostriction varies significantly from positive to negative values.
