In recent years, there has been a trend toward higher concentrations in electrolytes used in lithium batteries and other applications. However, the electric double-layer structure in such systems cannot be fully explained by the conventional Helmholtz layer model alone, and a new understanding based on alternative structural principles is required. In this study, we focused on ionic liquids, a representative example of high-density electrolytes, and evaluated the behavior of ion distribution under applied voltage by tracking changes in the concentration distribution of fluorine, oxygen, and nitrogen contained in the anions of the ionic liquids using XAFS.
