We propose a linear-optical protocol for conditionally generating three-component cat states from two-component cat states as input resources, using a half beam splitter and photon-number-resolving measurements. We analyze the success probability and fidelity of the protocol. Furthermore, we show that Bell measurements for three-component cat states can be implemented using linear optical elements.
