Fluorescence microscopy is widely used for observing intracellular structures. Diatoms produce useful substances such as lipids and silica, but the industrial application requires a thorough understanding of cellular functions. In particular, analysis of mitochondria, an important organelle, is expected to contribute to improving lipid production efficiency. However, mitochondrial staining in marine diatoms can be difficult in some cases. In this study, we investigated mitochondrial staining conditions in two marine diatom species using two types of organic fluorescent dyes.
