[11a-PA5-3]Design of Guided-mode-resonance Retroreflector using Unidirectional Grating Coupler

In this study, a narrowband retroreflector for free-space obliquely incident beam was investigated. The device consists of a unidirectional grating coupler integrated in a waveguide cavity. A retroreflector operating at a wavelength of 1540 nm and an incident angle of 20° was designed based on coupled-mode theory. Finite-difference time-domain simulations predicted a retroreflection spectrum exhibiting a peak reflectance of 83% and a full width at half maximum of 5 nm.
