We report recent advances in the fabrication, van der Waals assembly, and three-dimensional manipulation of atomically thin materials. We have designed and developed a new adhesive tape optimized for the mechanical exfoliation of atomically thin layers. Using this tape, we obtained atomically thin flakes with significantly larger sizes and higher yields than those achieved by conventional tape exfoliation methods. Furthermore, we introduce chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC), a polymer exhibiting stronger adhesion to atomically thin layers than conventional PVC. We will also present experiments on “atomic-layer origami,” enabled by the three-dimensional manipulation of atomically thin materials.
