I report on a water-level monitoring system based on Fresnel reflection from flat fiber ends. A tree-topology network and the time-division multiplexing technique are used to increase the number of sensor heads. To compensate for the loss of the network and sensitively detect weak reflections, a fiber amplifier and an avalanche photodetector are applied. Simultaneous sensing of 32 sensor heads was realized with a relatively simple setup.
