Thermo-electrochemical cell
Waste heat utilization through thermoelectric conversion has attracted attention. In particular, thermogalvanic cells can generate electric current via the thermogalvanic effect, in which different redox reactions occur at the high- and low-temperature electrodes. In this study, we investigated a thermogalvanic cell using a deep eutectic solvent itself as the redox species. By directly employing an iron-containing deep eutectic solvent as the electrolyte for the thermogalvanic cell, the concentration of the redox species was increased. As a result, a higher Seebeck coefficient was obtained compared with a thermogalvanic cell using the same redox species in an aqueous solution.
