We report on the fabrication of silicon nanoparticle layered structures via inkjet printing and the characterization of their multi-mode structural coloration. The silicon nanoparticle colloid was printed and arranged into layerd structures using a self-assembly process. We demonstrate four distinct modes of structural coloration: specular reflection originating from the intereference of scattered light in the periodic arrangement; diffuse reflection and transmission by individual particles; and regular transmission originating from the spectral overlapping of forward scattering and the complementary colors of reflection and absorption.
