Microscopic structural symmetry often manifests physical properties in solids. In magnetism, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction [1] is one of the important consequences of such structural symmetry, which link to varieties of rich chiral magnetic orders such as skyrmions, chiral magnetic domain walls, and non-colinear frustrated magnetic structures. For a new paradigm in magnetism and spintronics, it is crucial to have control on the DM interaction as well as ordering of the DM vectors which characterize the DM interaction. In this work, we discuss emergence of interlayer DM interaction in magnetic superlattices whose structural symmetry is unambiguously broken by using the unprecedented technique of our “alternating” strain mechanism.
