Supported by the Space Strategic Fund, our group is working on a three-year project to develop technologies essential for VLEO satellite operations. The project covers three topics: (1) an air-breathing ion engine, (2) a hyperthermal molecular scattering measurement system and a VLEO computational wind tunnel, and (3) material degradation mitigation against ultra-high-density atomic oxygen. This presentation introduces the project's overall structure and highlights the parts leveraging molecular beam and vacuum technologies.
