We developed a novel photoacoustic (PA) imaging system as a method for detecting characters that have been blacked out or altered. In this study, we detected PA signals from a black paper sandwiched between acrylic plates to investigate the mechanism of the PA wave generation from paper substrates. The results showed that the intensity of the PA signal depended on the shape of the acrylic plates. We analyzed the PA signals under different laser irradiation positions and sample placement conditions to experimentally investigate the propagation dynamics of PA waves.
