Multilayer films are fabricated using Si nanoparticles coated with SiO2 shells, and their optical properties are evaluated. Since monolayer films exhibit changes in structural color depending on the background color, the suppression of transmitted light by multilayer formation is investigated. The multilayer films are prepared by the Langmuir–Blodgett method. As the number of layers increases, the transmittance decreases while a high reflectance and the original hue are maintained. These results demonstrate that multilayer formation is effective in reducing background-color dependence.
