Au was deposited onto a CeO2(111) surface by evaporation, and the Au/CeO2(111) surface was investigated by NC-AFM/KPFM at 78 K. After Au deposition, highly dispersed dot-like Au protrusions were observed on the terrace region. Their height was estimated to be approximately 0.2 nm from line profile analysis, suggesting the formation of isolated Au atoms or small two-dimensional Au clusters. The CPD image showed local potential contrast, indicating spatial variation in the local electronic state. Around the step region, Au species preferentially appeared along Step II. These results suggest that the adsorption behavior of Au on CeO2(111) is affected by the local geometric and electronic structures of the surface.
