This talk will provide an overview of Peltier-like cooling driven by selective ion transport in solid-state nanopores. It will introduce recent results on local temperature measurements using nanoscale thermocouples and gate-voltage control of ion transport, and discuss the potential of aqueous ions as heat carriers for a new class of local cooling technologies, as well as their prospects for thermal management in next-generation semiconductor and iontronic devices.
