In photonic-crystal ring resonators (PhCRs) with periodic modulation introduced along the side wall, mode splitting occurs due to coupling between the forward and backward propagating modes. This property has been reported to facilitate access to soliton states, but its theoretical understanding remains insufficient. In this talk, based on the coupled Lugiato–Lefever equation, we analyze the soliton comb generation process and the existence conditions of soliton solutions from the viewpoints of MI gain and effective parameters, and present a systematic understanding of soliton comb formation in PhCRs.
