I am a professor at Hokkaido University, and also a journalist who has spent over 30 years covering international affairs. Drawing on my firsthand reporting experience from around the world, I would like to discuss the various issues surrounding semiconductors not from a technological perspective, but rather through the lenses of politics, economics, and diplomacy.
Conflicts in the Middle East continue to deepen, with no end in sight to the war in Ukraine. Strategic competition between the U.S. and China has intensified further. In an increasingly uncertain and turbulent world, where are the semiconductor industry and semiconductor technologies headed?
I would also like to share my views with members of the academic community on the future of Rapidus, a company expected to play a pivotal role in Japan's economic security strategy.
