Ni-Zn batteries are safe and high-capacity, but face issues with self-discharge and capacity loss due to local cell formation. This study evaluated zinc plating on copper foil current collectors using cyanide, zincate, and chloride baths. Structural analysis showed high crystallinity in the cyanide bath, while others formed amorphous, flat layers. In cycle tests, the highly crystalline cyanide film suppressed self-discharge, maintaining the zinc potential for over 200 cycles. Higher crystallinity yields better potential retention.
