Diamond impurities and crystal defects are known to act as color centers. Since these centers exhibit luminescence not only under optical excitation but also under radiation excitation, they can be utilized as scintillators. In this presentation, we report our experimental and theoretical studies aimed at understanding the fundamental properties of diamond scintillators and improving their performance for practical radiation detection applications.
