Thermogalvanic cells are thermoelectric energy conversion devices that use ionic species as charge carriers and generate electricity via redox couples undergoing opposite reactions at the hot and cold electrodes. While power generation can be sustained as long as a temperature difference is maintained, the performance of thermogalvanic cells often declines over time because of the depletion of redox-active species and reduced electrochemical reactivity. In this study, deep eutectic solvents (DESs), which contain redox couples at extremely high concentrations, were employed as carrier media to develop thermoelectric materials exhibiting long-term stable thermoelectric performance.
