Accurate hydrostatic pressure measurement is very important in chemical and oil industry to avoid overflow or leakage, maintain operational efficiency and ensure structural safety. PhC based pressure sensors provide accurate, real-time monitoring and are good candidates for next-generation miniaturized, high-performance sensing technologies. Among one-dimensional photonic crystal (PhC) structures, ternary PhCs has the advantages of wider bandgap due to increased number of refractive index combinations which make it more suitable for stronger electromagnetic field localization and thereby for sensing applications. To measure the hydrostatic pressure a mirror-symmetric ternary 1D PhC structure is proposed in this paper. The suggested sensor has a high sensitivity of 3.85 nm/GPa, a quality factor of 12943, and a working dynamic range of 0 to 10 GPa.
