Neutron irradiation was performed on Bi2212 single crystals, and the changes in their superconducting properties before and after irradiation were investigated. In the optimally doped sample, the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) decreased after irradiation, whereas Tc increased in both underdoped and overdoped samples. On the other hand, the critical current density (Jc) and the penetration depth (λ) increased in all samples after irradiation. Since the introduction of defects generally suppresses Tc in cuprates, the observed enhancement of Tc after irradiation is likely attributable to a change in the carrier doping level. These results suggest that neutron irradiation affects not only defect formation but also other factors, such as changes in the oxygen content.
