Atmospheric pressure plasma cleaning is currently being researched as a new method for cleaning historical paintings. This study aims to clarify the differences in the effects of plasma generated by various discharge methods on classical tempera paintings, with the ultimate goal of practical application through a detailed understanding of the mechanisms involved and the identification of appropriate treatment conditions. Surface morphological changes were confirmed through treatment experiments on samples. At the conference, we will report on the results of cleaning experiments on a soot-coated contamination model and our analysis of the removal mechanisms.
