Renée Speyer is a Professor of Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Galway,Ireland. Her research focuses on clinimetrics, instrument development, and evidence-basedinterventions in allied health, with a portfolio of projects spanning both nationaland international contexts.
Originally trained in the Netherlands, she holds master’s degrees in Speech and LanguagePathology, Epidemiology, and International Health Professions Education. She bringsextensive clinical and academic experience from diverse healthcare and educationalsettings across Europe—having worked in the Netherlands, Norway, and Ireland—as wellas in Australia. She is a frequent invited speaker at international conferences andhas authored over 125 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Since 2009, Professor Speyer has served on the board of the European Society for SwallowingDisorders (ESSD), and in 2023, she was inducted as one of the first Fellows of theESSD. She will also chair the Society’s annual conference in the Netherlands in 2026.
