高等教育機関において地域課題に取り組む活動が推奨されている。檜材料の利用促進の事例案として，檜の香りによる癒し効果を期待し，PCケース材料に檜木材を用いる試みをエンジニアリングデザイン教育として，卒業研究室に配属された学生が取り組んだ。
