超高齢者を対象にした緩和ケアの考え方

一般社団法人日本老年看護学会

日本老年看護学会は1995年、高齢化率が14.6％の時に設立し、2025年で30周年を迎えた。2025年の高齢化率は29.3％であり、100歳人口も10万人に達しようとしている。そこで合同シンポジウムのテーマを、90歳以上を対象とした「超高齢者の緩和ケア」とした。高齢者の心身の状態は向上しているとはいえ、90歳を超えれば老いも病いも顕著になる。医療を受けているか否かに関わらず、死は身近なものになり、さまざまな痛みや生活への支障も生じる。まして、医療を受ける状態になれば、さまざまな配慮を必要とする。しかし、医療・ケアを提供する者は超高齢者の体験している老いや病いの経験をもたない。何事も一様ではないという超高齢者の特性を踏まえて、その緩和ケアを検討することは始まったばかりである。本シンポジウムを貴学会の皆様と共に「超高齢者の緩和ケア」を考える機会としたい。
