患者はなぜ補完代替療法を用いるのか ―希望を保つ行動としての理解とコミュニケーション―

補完代替療法（CAM）に対し、慎重あるいは否定的な姿勢を持つ医療者は少なくない。しかし、厚生労働省はCAM を近代西洋医学と組み合わせて患者の QOL を向上させる医療として位置づけ、科学的検証と情報発信を推進している。近年、CAM に関するランダム化比較試験の報告が蓄積されており、全人的苦痛を和らげる一助としての可能性が注目されている。一方で、CAM には健康被害や経済的負担、標準治療の機会損失といったリスクも内在しており、医療者にはメリット・デメリットを冷静に踏まえた上で、患者・家族と適切なコミュニケーションを取る役割が求められている。本シンポジウムでは、CAM の利用実態を概説するとともに、病院や在宅医療での具体的な実践例を紹介する。患者が希望を保つための行動として CAM を捉え直し、医療者が「安心して相談できる伴走者」としてどのように関わるべきか、CAM のあり方について議論を深めたい。
