Organo-montmorillonites were achieved after modification by benzyloctadecyldimethylammonium chloride (BODMA-Cl) in different amounts, and these products were employed to investigate the adsorption capacities of perchlorate. The maximum adsorption capacity of 0.886 mmol/g was obtained. Moreover, XRD, FTIR, TG-DTA and zeta potential measurement were used to characterize the configurations of the cationic benzyloctadecyldimethylammonium (BODMA+) and neutral BODMA-Cl in all products.
