Ore deposits in Malawi are found in peculiar geological conditions because the country's basement complex is overlaid by Permo-Triassic sediments, cut by Mesozoic igneous intrusions and disrupted by Cenozoic rift faulting. In this presentation, mining operations at the Kayelekera Uranium Mine characterized by a down faulted block, bounded by normal faults in arkose units of sandstone sediments will be introduced. Geology and mining operations at limestone quarries in Malawi are also reviewed.
