The effect of oxygen addition on the leaching of copper powder, obtained from the recycling process of PCB, was investigated to recover valuable metals efficiently from the powder. The copper powder was oxidized partly, and consists of copper metal and Cu2O. During the leaching of cuprous oxide in sulfuric acid, cuprous ions change into copper and cupric ion by disproportionation. However, the addition of oxygen accelerates the leaching of Cu2O because oxygen acts as electron-acceptor.
