Platinum group metals are recovered in a copper smelting and the peculiar recycling processes by using a copper collector metal. A knowledge for the distribution behavior of PGMs between slags and a molten copper is important in evaluation of the processes.
In this study, the distribution ratios of palladium between the Cu2O-SiO2 slags and Cu-Pd alloys are measured at 1523K. The distribution ratios of palladium decrease with increasing of SiO2 content in the slags. The ratio of between the 12mass%SiO2-Cu2O slag and the liquid Pd-Cu alloy is 1/6 of the Cu2O slag without SiO2. We found that addition of SiO2 to the Cu2O slag reduces the slag loss of palladium.
