Carrier-microencapsulation (CME) is a technique to form metal-oxide/hydroxide coating specifically on pyrite surface to suppress pyrite oxidation, which causes acid mine drainage formation. In this study, carrier-microencapsulation using Fe3+- and Fe2+-catecholate complexes was investigated by electrochemical and leaching experiments. The results showed that these complexes formed iron-oxyhydroxide coatings on pyrite and suppressed both anodic and cathodic half-cell reactions of pyrite oxidation.
