The selective flotation of chalcocite and enargite was studied using surface oxidation treatment and collector. Pure mineral flotation shows that the floatability of each mineral significantly decreases after the oxidation treatment. Interestingly, flotation of mixed mineral of copper mineral and enargite shows that enargite exhibit a higher floatability compared to copper mineral after adding of potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) followed by the oxidation treatment. The effect of PAX and oxidation treatment have been investigated through infrared spectroscopy (IR) analyses, adsorption measurements and X-ray photoelectron (XPS) analyses. The results indicated that the oxidation treatments had different effects on wettability of copper mineral and enargite surface. These results showed that the copper mineral surface became hydrophilic owing to the surface deposition of oxidized iron after hydrogen peroxide treatment. Possible mechanism of this study was proposed in this work.
