In this study an oxidation treatment was proposed for separation of copper sulfide minerals and arsenic-bearing copper minerals using flotation. Microflotation tests were performed to assess the effectivity of this oxidation treatment for the separation of these minerals. The microflotation results shows that the oxidation treatment exhibited detrimental effect on the flotation recovery of copper sulfide and arsenic-bearing copper minerals in the absence of collector. However, the addition of a copper collector could selectively recover the arsenic-bearing copper minerals after being treated in the oxidation treatment. Meanwhile, the recovery of copper sulfide minerals remained low, suggesting separation of both minerals might be possible. A mechanism is proposed in this study based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis and adsorption test.
