The metal sufides have been treated by pyrometallurgical processes to produce Cu, Zn, and Pb. However, these processes have some disadvantages such as hazardous gas emission and high energy consumption. Therefore, hydrometallurgical processes have been recognized as alternative processes for recycling in South Korea because of their flexibility to change for different raw materials and their low energy consumption due to small-scale operations. In this article, hydrometallurgy processes used in the recycling of lithium ion battery and waste electric and electronic equipments were reviewed and summarized.
