In this study, the flotabilities of the new collector 2-(octylthio)aniline (2-OA) and the conventional collector, potassium amylxanthate (PAX); were compared during the one-stage and two-stage flotation on a copper sulfide ore. The results showed that the new collector 2-OA had a stronger capacity to collect copper sulfide ore than PAX under the same flotation conditions. More especially when employing a two stage flotation, the final copper grade can be increased by a factor of 2. Overall, the collector 2-OA can yield a higher copper recovery and copper grade than PAX.
