Recently, we often hear about the use of e-portfolio as an educational, quality assurance tool. It has been prevailing among universities, as well. Its operational policies and aims are various but it is still misled, despite the success of just recording the student's learning activities, which has resulted in several failure of motivating the students into more positive attitude of learning. The use of e-portfolio among high schools, on the other hand, is ahead of the universities in that it is linked to the background demand of the entrance exam in 2020. JAPAN e-Portfolio was developed in response to the university entrance exam reform, and is expected to be utilized in entrance exam as the records for three competencies of high school students, "self-directed learning, diversity and collaboration". The purpose of this symposium is to clarify the current status and the issues of the e-portfolio system prevailed in pharmacy education, and to review its ideal use from the viewpoint of users' perspectives. There are four presentations; the first is about the use of the portfolio in Interprofessional Education, the second is about the development of an e-portfolio for competency based learning, the third is about visualizing the students' learning process to improve the educational effect, and the last is an advanced case study in the United States about the use of e-portfolio in Continuing Professional Development.
