PACAP in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus contributes to the development of anxiety-like behavior associated with peripheral neuropathic pain.

The ratio of the elderly population aged 65 and over to the total population in Japan (2020) is the highest (28.9%) in the world, and it is expected to continue to rise in the future. In a super-aging society, the number of patients with cancer, cardiovascular disease, dementia and depressive illness is increasing, and it is necessary to clarify the causes of onset and/or progression and problems with drug treatment. <br />Therefore, this symposium will consist of research presentations from next-generation young researchers working on a basic research focused on elucidation of pathological conditions of dementia, depressive illness and pain and establishment of new drug treatments for such illnesses, and clinical research verifying new effects of existing drugs (prevention and treatment of side effects induced by various anticancer drugs) from the view of drug repositioning. We really hope that this symposium will provide a great opportunity to exchange opinions and to share the latest information on various problems in clinical practice and their solutions for students and young researchers who will be responsible for future medical care.
