Chemical substances such as medicines, food additives, or cosmetics have become an integral part of our lives. As growing the recent interest in health, these are more strongly required to be safe. Thus, research to pursue their safety has become an important research and education issue in pharmaceutical sciences. For developing chemical substances that ensure human health, it is essential not only to understand the risks (integration of exposure and hazard) by analyzing their exposure level and health effects (hazard) of chemical substances, but to manage and control them. Moreover, based on the information, establishing a quality assurance and toxicity prediction evaluation system is also an issue to be tackled. Therefore, this symposium gives lectures about research on indispensable elements when considering the effects of chemical substances on human health; (1) understanding and controlling the pharmacokinetics, (2) elucidation of toxicity and its mechanism considering the difference in species, and (3) analytical chemistry for quality control. Together, we would like to discuss prospects for human health impact assessment and risk analysis.
