Roles of Phosphorothioate Nucleic Acids in Polysaccharide/DNA Complexes and its Relationship with the Origin of Life

"Supramolecules" are molecular species in which multiple molecules are assembled in an orderly manner through non-covalent bonds, and often exhibit "weak interactions" that interact gently with other substances.  Not only endogenous compounds such as DNA and antibody-antigen complexes, but also liposomes, polymers, albumin, and cyclodextrin, which are widely used as drug carriers and pharmaceutical materials, are types of supramolecules.  On the other hand, "sulfur" is an element that has driven the history of life on earth since ancient times when oxygen was scarce. has been discovered in vivo, and "sulfur biology", which controls various physiological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and energy metabolism, is attracting attention. In this symposium, we will focus on "supramolecules" and "sulfur" in the intracellular and extracellular environment, and approach the origin of life. Furthermore, we would like to discuss the development of drug delivery systems using "supermolecules" that enable "substance symbiosis".<br />This symposium is co-sponsored by Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A) " Biophysical Chemistry for Material Symbiosis " and "Innovative Sulfur Biology Emerging from Supersulfides", as well as "Focus Group of Supramolecular pharmaceutical sciences " of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan.
