Even from a global perspective, Japan has fewer clinical research papers than basic research papers, and basic research continues to predominate. In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to conduct clinical research, making it necessary to actively conduct fusion research between basic and clinical research to benefit patients. To promote fusion research, it is necessary to accumulate data from various perspectives through multidisciplinary collaborations and formulate a process that leads to academic presentations and the writing of papers. In addition, pharmacists in clinical settings need to be able to discern whether problems in clinical settings should be solved by a pharmacy. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop human resources and sites that can introduce fusion research.
In this symposium, we will focus on the field of cardiovascular medicine, and four speakers will present examples of model studies that integrate basic and clinical research, and introduce key points for implementation, including collaboration among multiple disciplines and human resource development. We will also consider how sixth-year pharmacy education should be based on an integrated conception of basic and clinical sciences.
