Encapsulation of an antioxidant in redox-sensitive albumin nanoparticles

The immune system can distinguish 'self' from 'non-self' and eliminate the 'non-self' from the host. On the other hand, some 'non-self', such as the fetus and the intestinal bacteria, forms symbiotic relationship with the host and avoid elimination by the immune system. Although various functional biocompatible materials have been developed, the true "material symbiosis" has not been established.<br />In this symposium, we focus on the analysis of immune response against biological drugs and synthetic polymers such as polyethylene glycol, and the development of novel materials with immune tolerance or immune evasion. We will introduce six cutting-edge studies by graduate students and discuss the future perspectives in the symbiosis between materials and humans. We hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity for active discussions and a steppingstone for the development of 'symbiotic material'.
