Development of organic synthetic reactions and its future visions oriented to solve social issues in 2040s

BUTTOBE, a medical innovator fostering program conducted by Graduate School of Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, has been promoting several activities for doctoral students to acquire competencies aiming to develop human resources who can break through and innovate medical difficulties without being limited by the existing common sense and frameworks. The BUTTOBE students have a number of opportunities to define their own mission and values, and envision how their own research projects can contribute to the social challenges. To be an excellent researcher, one requires not only the ability to produce excellent research results, but also the ability to clarify and commit to what social issues they will solve. In this symposium, we wish to hold discussions involving young researchers other than BUTTOBE students, in order to enhance the young researchers' problem-solving ability from a wider variety of perspectives. Specifically, we will imagine the future society in 2040 on the theme of medicine and drug discovery, and consider how we can realize the social application of each person's research theme. Based on the results of one's own research, the participants will discuss the social application they have aimed for so far and the possibilities of such implementation.
