In-hospital preparation within healthcare institutions, historically carried out by pharmacists as part of their profession, has involved the preparation of formulations from existing medications and reagents tailored to the individual needs of patients. These individual patient needs can be seen as a form of unmet medical need. With the recent changes in societal circumstances, the landscape surrounding in-house preparations has evolved. While activities of in-hospital preparations have been on the decline, the frequency of clinical use remains significant, and the potential need as a candidate for future drug development is substantial.
To address these developments, we have organized this symposium. Specifically, the symposium aims to assess the current state of in-house preparations, promote its clinical utilization, and explore ways to link clinical needs to the development of new pharmaceuticals. This symposium has been jointly planned by the the Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences, The Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our goal is to gain insight into the current status of in-hospital preparation, harness the expertise of pharmacists, and facilitate discussions from the standpoint of each of the participating societies.
