Visualizing conformational changes in endocytic and exocytic proteins at the plasma membrane using advanced FRET techniques

Synaptic transmission is tightly regulated through the assembly of numerous functional molecules into supramolecular nanostructures. This symposium will highlight recent advances in understanding how such nanostructures underly synaptic function by integrating structural and functional approaches. The session will cover a wide range of topics, including conformational changes of exo-endocytotic functional proteins, single molecule physiology of presynaptic proteins, nanoscale organization of molecules underlying synaptic transmission, postnatal maturation of presynaptic function and topography, and the molecular and physiological properties of nanocolumn organization at the synaptic periphery. Together, these cutting-edge studies offer foundation for future direction of the field.
