We are investigating a sensing method using MCFs that utilizes inter-core crosstalk in the longer wavelength band than the communication band. As part of our preliminary investigation, we measured the variation in inter-core crosstalk due to temperature changes. Specifically, we broadened the bandwidth of the pulse laser and measured the crosstalk spectrum from the central core to the outer cores of a 7-core MCF. We confirmed that the cross-talk spectrum changes between 1600 nm and 1700 nm in response to temperature changes, suggesting that this technology holds promise for application as a sensor.
